Map of the Race Course

There you have it folks, the map of the race course for the event, complete with "Canadian Section" and heckler's rock. I would like to take this time to thank all the efforts of the builders for putting this together. When we first hiked the course we were thinking that the work to get it to this point was way less... and the few stood up to take on the challenge and have created what is sure to become one of the best tracks out there.

Make sure to note that this weekend the course IS CLOSED and will not be running until Friday next week when it will be opened for hiking.

Thanks,

Dan

Track is looking PRIME!!!!

Today we were back out on the mountain building away, getting a race course all hammered together for the event in 2 weeks.

2 WEEKS?!??!?!?

Early Bird Registration pricing ends this Thursday at midnight so you might want to register before than so that you don't pay the extra coin!

We lugged wood from the mountain side in Mission and then drove it to locations on the race course that needed some bridges. That is right, the rungs for the bridges were imported all the way from Mission! (Not too sure if that is an up sell or not!)

Location, Location, Location!

Hemlock Resort is located at the head of the Lower Mainland, approximately 1.5 hour drive from Vancouver, and 2 hours from Merritt.

Check the map out HERE

for directions from Vancouver, and HERE for directions from Merritt.

For those on the Island, you will have to take BC Ferries (www.bcferries.com) so check the schedule here and please note that during summer time the line-ups can be longer than normal, and we don’t want you to miss the race!

Volunteers

No event would get anywhere without the hard work put forth by volunteers. We understand that Hemlock is a bit far away from you home so we have given each volunteer a place to sleep if they want to volunteer both days. You get a room in one of the chalets, and there will be lunches provided by Dunbar Cycles Productions but breakfast is not provided.

Sleeping Arrangments

There are pretty much four options for sleeping at Hemlock this year.

  1. You can drive back home. We don’t recommend this because if you are riding all day practicing for your winning run you are probably going to be pretty tired. The road back down the mountain is pretty twisty and you should be fully alert when driving. Son onto number two.
  2. Camping. We are providing for a nominal fee of $10.00 a place for you to pitch a tent on one of the gravel parking lots with your car. The lots will be marked out roughly into 10x10 sites, okay more as we don’t have a tape measure that large up there, but you get the point. There will be outhouses provided close by if you need to use them late at night when the washrooms in the lodge are closed. If you have registered for camping you will need to get a wristband so that the security guard doesn’t throw you out. We will provide you with one when you pick up your race plate.
  3. Renting a cabin from the good folks through Snowflake Resorts who can be contacted through the internet at www.snowflakeresort.com.
  4. Additionally there is a Bed and Breakfast provided by the good folks of Hemlock Hollow. They can be contact through the internet at www.hemlockhollow.com

Some other information regarding staying at Hemlock, the Hemlock Hollow B&B also has a small shop that carries various items like drinks, breakfast sandwiches, personal items etc. If you have forgotten your nail clippers I am sure that they have a pair you can purchase.

Master of Ceremonies:

This is the person who will be around race day to make sure that you know who everyone is. The Myth, the Mystery, the Legend Rocky Mountain Frow Rider , much like the tunes for the weekend, has awaken from the dead… Brett Tippie will own the mic!

Parking Notifications:

There is loads of parking in lot 1, but you must be registered for camping to enter lot 2 and park your car/truck there.

Shuttles:

Shuttles… Shuttles!!!!! Heck no we got a lift!!! Hemlock will be staffing and manning the Sasquatch Chair for the race course. PLEASE NOTE: See the big letters outlined in black… this lift is older than the quad detachable chair machines that Whistler Blackcomb provides. Please allow approximately 20 minute lift time.

Registration:

Registration will take place at the Lodge area at the base of the race course. Make sure you are super nice to the lovely ladies there, or they may just cancel your registration. You will be getting a Racer Package with valuable information; we suggest that you read it. This year there will be no paper copies of the racer kits, we will be forwarding you all the information that you need when you register. Too many trees get cut down so we are attempting to reduce the impact on the environment by sending you all the information that you need to your email.

Food:

Hemlock resort will be providing ample BBQ services and pub services throughout the weekend!!!! The pub will not be open till 11am due to “laws”. Remember you basically are in the middle of no-where so bring ample food and water to maintain you athletic physic.

Other Items of Interest

There is secure bike storage provided by Hemlock Guest Services. Contact them via the internet at www.snowflakeresort.com. They will provide a safe place for your bike to kept while you sleep.

Additionally bring some bug spray… there are a trillion bugs there and no one likes being a feast for the mosquitoes. Nets make a terrible fashion statement, and ditch the cologne and perfume for the DEET smell. We hear it is going to be huge in 2012.

Saturday Night Movie Night

For the small fee of $5.00 you get to see “3 Minute Gaps” the next wicked DH movie by Clay Porter and John Lawlor. Additionally you will get a visual feast of photographic goodness from Dan Barham from his winning entry into the Scandinavian Photo Challenge at the Are Bike Park in Sweden.

See information for each here:

3 Minute Gaps

Camp of Champions-Air Bag

The good guys at Camp of Champions will be there to provide you riders, free of charge a chance to have your go at the Air Bag. That is right, all weekend you will be able to try your best back flip, front flip, belly flop onto the world’s largest air bag. (Don’t quote me on the world’s largest bit)

Cycle Component Network SPEED TRAP!

There is a relatively straight section of trail coming into the new hip jump at the lower 1/4 of the course. There you will find the CCN SPEED TRAP! That is right, an honest to goodness Police certified radar gun complete with digital display. You will be able to see first hand just how fast, or slow you were going. Don't worry though; Rocky Mountain Fro-Rider Brett Tippie will be in the "living room" to heckle you if you didn't get to see it.

DUNBAR Cycles 16" BMX

Back again for 2011 is the Dunbar Cycles 16" BMX Challenge. A new track will be constructed to challenge even the best. Try your luck from 7pm - 9pm Saturday August 27th, 2010. Helmets are mandatory for this event. Knee/shin pads are recommended.
